3 Ways to Keep Your Smile Shining Bright Image

3 Ways to Keep Your Smile Shining Bright

September 30, 2021

Your at-home dental care routine is the foundation for you to achieve a healthy mouth and an attractive smile. Following the dentist recommended practice of brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing is essential. But there are additional quick and easy ways you can take care of your mouth and maintain optimal oral health between dentist appointments.

Here are 3 effective ways you can level up your at-home dental care routine.

Bringing Out Your Best Smile Starts with Your At-Home Routine

  1. Show Your Teeth Some Love!

Going on autopilot during daily routines is all too easy. When it comes to brushing and flossing, are you just going through the motions without really focusing on your technique and thoroughness? Next time you brush your teeth, focus on the task by really being mindful on the way you’re cleaning each tooth.

Another great idea is to time yourself with your phone. Many people don’t brush for the recommended two minutes, which could result in hard-to-reach teeth not getting properly cleaned.

  • Upgrade Your Tools

Want to show you really mean to step up your daily dental routine? Electric toothbrushes are proven to help you clean your teeth much more effectively than manual toothbrushes. An 11-year study found that people who use electric toothbrushes have healthier gums, less tooth decay, and keep their natural teeth for longer than manual brush users.

Water flosser systems are also a fun and effective upgrade. If you dread flossing, a water flosser can be the perfect tool to encourage you to floss more often. Believe it or not, the device could even make flossing more fun!

  • Your Are What You Eat – And So Is Your Smile

Your diet plays an important role in your oral health. A nutritious, varied diet will promote optimal oral health. Improving your diet could be as simple as reducing your intake of the things that can cause tooth decay, like sugars, starches, and simple carbohydrates. By drinking more water and less soda, or finding healthier alternatives to your favorite sweet treats, you can empower a dramatic effect on your oral health.

Of course, thorough at-home oral care can’t substitute for professional dental care. Dentists have the tools and training to notice things about your teeth and gums before you. Your dentist can prevent these warning signs from becoming serious problems! MRTA and AMBA have Dental Plans that provide coverage on everything from routine dentist visits to procedures like root canals, crowns, and more.
