Dear MRTA Members:
This message is brought to you, in part, by the MRTA Informative and Protective Services Committee and Committee Chair Linda Lueckenhoff. October is Cybersecurity Month - learn how to protect yourself.
Those of you affected by the PSRS/PEERS data security incident have already received or will be receiving, letters in the mail in the next few days. To be safe, if you do not receive a letter this week, call next week to be certain it was not lost in the mail. PSRS/PEERS has a phone line dedicated to helping members and retirees with this matter - (888) 391-6964.
We strongly suggest you take advantage of the free Experian credit monitoring immediately. See below for information from PSRS/PEERS on how to sign up. You will need the letter PSRS/PEERS is mailing to you in order to sign up.
Enrolling Online:
When enrolling online, you can expect it to take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete the process.
1. Have your Activation Code available to input when prompted. This is found on the letter you received.
2. You will be asked to provide your personal information (name, address, etc.).
3. You will then set up an online login including a security question.
4. For verification and security purposes, you will be asked five multiple-choice questions regarding information personal to you (auto loan information, previous home loan information, employment history, etc.).
Enrolling by Telephone:
When enrolling by phone, the representative will verbally walk you through the following questions, which does take a bit of time. You should expect at least 15-20 minutes at a minimum to complete the process.
1. Have your Engagement Number and Activation Code available to input when prompted. Both are found on the letter you received.
2. You will be asked to provide your personal information (name, address, etc.).
3. You will then be asked to set up an online login including a security question.
4. For verification and security purposes, you will be asked five multiple-choice questions regarding information personal to you (auto loan information, previous home loan information, employment history, etc.).
Once your account is set up with Experian, you will have access to a lot of good information regarding your current credit status and any fraudulent activity.
